Big names back beleaguered Brown ... to withdraw its troops from Georgia as part of last week's French-brokered peace deal.
German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said Russia should pull out of what he called "at least the heart of Georgia" to make possible talks on a durable ceasefire. He warned against any break in dialogue with Moscow. British Foreign Secretary David Miliband said Russia must live up to commitments made by its President Dmitry Medvedev. Miliband added that he did not believe in isolating Russia. This follows a US suggestion that NATO consider suspending meetings of the NATO-Russian Council, founded in 2002. Diplomats in Brussels say some of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation's 27 members, noteably ex-communist states, back the US stance, while others are mindful of Russia's role as an energy supplier to western Europe.
