Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said that Russian tanks have entered Georgian territory outside of South Ossetia. Russian forces are reportedly in control of South Ossetia's capital, Tskhinvali. News agencies are reporting claims that Russia has sunk a Georgian missile boat that Moscow says was trying to attack its ships in the Black Sea. The incident could mark a serious escalation of fighting. The Russian Black Sea fleet has now been mobilized off the Georgian coast as Russian artillery and fighter jets bombed Georgian targets outside the conflict zone. The Georgian city of Gori is said to be coming under heavy bombardment. Official sources said ground forces were preparing to attack.
