The Netherlands has ratified the European Union's reform treaty. Parliament's upper house approved the Lisbon Treaty on Tuesday, one month after lawmakers in the lower house voted overwhelmingly in favour of ratification.
The Netherlands is the 21st EU member to approve the treaty which aims to streamline decision making in the bloc. However, the treaty's future has been thrown into doubt, after Irish voters rejected it in a referendum last month.
